Day 9 of lock-down - situation getting desperate now

The Virus is killing me, as there is no excuse from saying in the past that little job
I'll do when I have time.
So all fence panels painted, someone else's dog walked, now time for the workshop.

I've been busily making the chimney base ring, this is meant to be an aluminum casting but as I ordered the wrong part number I ended up with 2 chimney saddle castings.

I was not enthused that it would have been aluminum anyway, and since we went on lockdown I decided to make it from mild steel, using a bit I found in the workshop.

The photo on the left is me smoking the ring down to size quickly 2mm deep cuts at a time.

The 2nd operation was to divide the 4 mounting holes on the outside for 4mm bolts.

Finished chimney base ring in mild steel! Feel better riveting this to the chimney rather than an aluminum casting and saved £13 + vat on a casting that I perhaps would not be able to get in the current situation. (sorry about the spelling check swapping for American / Canadian version of the
material).

A few parts finished and I decided to give them a coat of red oxide paint to save any corrosion at a later date due to storage.
Even a cast iron part left in the shed over a weekend showed signs of surface oxidation so not a bad thing to get done.......... More to follow..........

1" Minnie Traction Engine By Stephen Meredith Background Working Progress (Gears) Front End Parts Following the completion of a small marine steam engine "Trojan Engine", I decided to tackle a larger project. Having visited various shows and the model engineers Exhibition, I decided to buy the Construction book for building the popular 1" scale 'Minnie' traction engine. Welland Steam Show 2025 Report..... (Saturday) FULL Video https://youtu.be/ayib_Q_EvKc Welland Steam Show (Upton-upon-Severn July 25th - 27th 2025). Ross-0n-Wye Steam Engine Society 59th Annual Rally. Hotel : Star Inn also responsible for the "Minge Lane" Music festival. (We attended 1 month earlier). The show as usual was well attended. I'm happy to report the numbers looked fantastic and the weather was as good as needed. Maybe we have inspired the next generation of Model Engineers. It certainly looked like there was no shortage of money changing hands for tools. The show boasted 42 miniatures and 105 full size engines, along with a huge number of commercials, cars, bikes, tanks and military vehicles and displays. This time again, like last year, there was the heavy haulage arena, which was fascinating to watch, as long as you could keep the coal ash out of your eyes :-) I can imagine the rising fuel costs to move large machines, but ...
