Lock Down long haul - Hopefully stop COVID references.
Hopefully, stop the reference to any viruses other than the sort you get on your computer because even spending so much time in the workshop you can have too much of a good thing.
Since the last post, only the items painted and I've finished a few bits off with the exception of the chimney saddle.
Good time for a photo.
After a lot of time fiddling about with the miller and the lathe trying to decide if I can mount it and have room to swing a tool, I decided on the setup above. It's still to be proven but test cuts appear to work and the finish looks ok to me. It's slow machining this way I can see why they call it a boring bar !!
Well since the weather was nice I decided to run my finished engine, "NINA" the 1inch Minnie.
However, Saturday was not a good day, and water started pouring out from under the engine and finally put the fire out.
I did initially panic thinking the boiler was damaged somehow but it was found to be coming out of the exhaust and after filling the firebox up ran down the lowest fire tube and into the fire. Then I remembered the front need to be a little higher than the back, to stop it purging water when the boiler is full. So rather than stripping it down too much, I tried again Sunday and all was fine, phew !!.....
